How Mzancex AI started
It began, as a lot of things do, around a braai. One of our founders had just watched a cousin lose a chunk of his December bonus on a flashy trading app that promised "guaranteed daily profits". No stop-loss, no explanation, and support that vanished the moment he asked for a withdrawal. The conversation that night kept circling back to one question: why does nobody build this stuff properly for people here?
So in 2023 a handful of us — a couple of software engineers, a former prop-desk trader and a risk analyst who still insists on spreadsheets — started building what would become Mzancex AI. We spent most of that first year doing the unglamorous part: stress-testing the engine against old market crashes, rand sell-offs and the odd Eskom-related wobble, and throwing out anything that couldn't explain itself.
The platform opened to the public in 2024. It's been updated every few weeks since, mostly based on what real users tell us.
What we believe
- Safety before excitement. Loss limits and stop-losses are switched on by default. You can tighten them; you can't forget them.
- No black boxes. Every trade the AI makes is logged in plain English, so you can see why it acted.
- Honesty about risk. We will never tell you profits are guaranteed. They aren't — not here, not anywhere.
- Local first. Rand accounts, SAST support hours and people who understand South African banks.
Who is behind the platform?
We're a small, mostly remote team spread between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Our engineers look after the trading engine and app; our risk team writes the rules that keep the AI on a short leash; and our support team answers questions during South African business hours. We'd rather stay small and careful than grow fast and sloppy.

Short answer: Mzancex AI is a solid, beginner-friendly AI trading platform for South Africans, with the best default risk controls we've seen in this space. It isn't flawless, and it won't make anyone rich overnight.

What we liked
The plain-English trade log is genuinely useful — after a few weeks you start to recognise the setups the AI likes, which is a quiet form of education. The demo runs on live prices, so it actually feels like the real thing. And depositing in rand removes that nasty "how much did the conversion cost me?" moment.
What could be better
Pro mode has a learning curve; some of the custom-rule screens could be friendlier. Full ID verification is required before live withdrawals, which is the right call for safety but does add a step. And, of course, losses are still possible — the AI manages risk, it doesn't remove it.
